IKEA Is Allowing Customers To Buy With Time.
IKEA has come up with an interesting concept; rather than paying for your goods with hard cash, you could instead pay for your goods with your time. The more time customers spend travelling to IKEA, the more they can buy! IKEA Dubai is running the ‘Buy With Time’ campaign allowing customers to pay for their goods with their time as a currency. Simply by showing the checkout staff their Google Maps timeline, proves how much time they’ve spent travelling to IKEA stores.
Whilst currently only available to IKEA Dubai, we would like to see this rolled out world-wide. Typically, IKEA stores are on the outskirts of large towns, meaning that customers may have to travel long distances to visit stores. Because of this IKEA has created ‘time currency’ prices for every item in the Dubai store. These prices are based on the average Dubai salary so customers are now able to pay with either Dirhams or time.
A 49 minute journey to a local IKEA store could see you paying for a Lack coffee table with your time. Not to worry though if you live near by, a five minute journey could net you a hot dog!
An IKEA spokesperson made this comment about the campaign,
“Before the birth of this campaign, we realised two things: time is precious today, and many loyal IKEA customers spend a significant chunk of it visiting our locations, which are sometimes away from the city centre,” said an IKEA spokesperson. “We think it’s only right to reward our customers’ efforts by repaying them for the time spent reaching us. It’s our way of helping the Dubai community make the most of every minute.”
